The government and corporations play a leading role in improving energy efficiency of vehicles and land public transit, which cover most of the cargo transport and the passenger travel, and using environmentally-friendly alternative fuels in the world. To keep up with this trend, urban buses are now using compressed natural gas (CNG) and low-floor buses are also being introduced and distributed for the people with limited accessibility to transportation in Korea. According to Article 26 of the "law on improving the moving convenience of the people with limited accessibility to transportation", Article 3 of the "law on fostering public transit and promoting its use" and other relevant laws, it is very urgent to extend and widely distribute the low-floor bus for the people with limited accessibility to transportation, who are expected to account for 26.4% of the total population in 2011. Therefore, this R & D project tries to make this the lightweight composite body balanced with the city's dynamic view and to make innovative interior design not only for the majority of passengers but also the disable, pregnant, old and weak while improving fuel efficiency with the lightweight body and enhancing the national competitiveness.
Develop specifications for standard model of the low floor bus
Basic and detail design of the propulsion system, basic and detail design of the driving systems
The body, interior, propulsion, breaking, driving system that form the standard model of the low-floor bus are produced and its main components (body, door, air-conditioner, CNG tank, etc) are tested and evaluated.
